# Add ProductGroup schema to WooCommerce variable products

ProductGroup describes a product family and connects its variations. SEOPress PRO 10.1 or later can use it for WooCommerce variable products when a SEOPress Product schema is already configured. Turning on ProductGroup alone does not create a Product schema.

## Prepare a variable product

1. Install and activate WooCommerce, SEOPress Free and PRO.
2. In WooCommerce, create a variable product with its attributes and real variations.
3. For each variation, check its price, availability, SKU and image where applicable. Give the parent product a useful name, description and image.
4. Publish the product and verify that customers can select and buy its available variations.

For example, a T-shirt may have two purchasable sizes. The product family describes the T-shirt, while each variation has its own offer. The schema must match the information customers actually see.

## Configure the Product schema

Enable Structured Data Types in **SEO, PRO**. Create an [automatic Product schema](https://www.seopress.org/support/guides/automatic-schema/) targeting WooCommerce products, or configure the manual Product schema on the relevant product. Check its WooCommerce mappings and verify that a Product schema appears before enabling the group option.

If WooCommerce also outputs a duplicate Product, review **SEO, PRO, WooCommerce, Remove WooCommerce Schemas**. Only suppress a producer after confirming that the intended replacement is complete.

## Enable ProductGroup and check the output

1. Open **SEO, PRO, WooCommerce**.
2. Enable **Output a ProductGroup schema with its variants** and save.
3. Clear the product page cache and inspect the published variable product.

Look for `@type: ProductGroup`, a `productGroupID` and a `hasVariant` collection containing Product entries and their offers. Supported variation dimensions can appear in `variesBy`. The parent SKU is used as the group identifier when available, with a fallback identifier otherwise. Simple products remain Product schemas.

By default, the group embeds at most 50 variations. Only the first variations within the configured limit are included; check large product families carefully. Developers can review the `seopress_pro_wc_product_group_max_variants` filter when a different limit is needed.

## Validate and troubleshoot

Run the URL through [Google’s Rich Results Test](https://search.google.com/test/rich-results) and [Schema.org Validator](https://validator.schema.org/). Check variation prices, currencies, availability and URLs against WooCommerce. Valid markup does not guarantee a particular search display.

If ProductGroup is absent, verify the product is variable, the Product schema is enabled and matches this product, the group setting is saved, and variations are valid and within the limit. Check the uncached source and ensure you are not reading another plugin’s schema. Review return and delivery information separately using the [return-policy guide](https://www.seopress.org/support/guides/how-to-add-a-merchant-return-policy-to-your-woocommerce-product-schema/).
