What it is
The AI Assistant is a chat panel built into the WordPress block editor (SEOPress PRO). It reads your current post (content, keywords, SEO settings, even the block you have selected), so its help is tailored to what you are working on. It can suggest content and act on your site, and it goes well beyond SEO: it can also translate, rewrite, summarize, restructure, and draft from scratch.
Set it up (once)
- Go to SEO settings > AI, choose your provider (OpenAI, Claude, Google Gemini, Mistral, DeepSeek) and add your API key, or pick SEOPress AI Credits for a ready-to-go option.
- Enable the AI chat assistant.
- In the block editor, click “Open AI Assistant” to open the panel.
1. Just ask, in plain language
Type your request in the chat (placeholder: “Ask about SEO or type / for commands…”). It understands free-form instructions, not only fixed commands:
- “Translate this entire article into Spanish, keep my headings and tone, and adapt the meta title and description.”
- “Rewrite this product description in a more premium, persuasive tone, then generate a matching meta description.”
- “Summarize this 2,000-word post into a short intro plus a bulleted TL;DR at the top.”
- “Draft a 1,200-word outline on home espresso machines, then suggest 5 titles and a meta description.”
- “Research keywords for ‘beginner yoga’, group them by search intent, and turn the best ones into an outline.”
- “Proofread the whole post and fix grammar without changing my voice.”
Type / to use a slash command as a shortcut, for example /write, /title, /translate, /outline, /keywords, or /workflow. The welcome screen also offers one-click “Quick actions” such as “Generate SEO Titles”, “Write Article with AI”, “Generate FAQ”, “Proofread Content”, and “Fix SEO Issues”.
2. Quick actions from the editor toolbar
You do not always need the chat. Select a block (or some text) and open the “AI” button in the block toolbar:
- “Rewrite for SEO”
- “Translate to…”
- “Make shorter” / “Make longer”
- “Fix grammar”
- “Change tone to…”
- “Add target keyword”
- “Add to AI context” (send the block to the chat for a follow-up)
On an image block, you also get “Generate alt text & caption”.
3. Give it context with “Attach context”
In the prompt bar, the “Attach context” button (the +) tells the assistant exactly what to work on:
- “Selected block” (the block you picked in the editor)
- “Image from Media Library”
- “SEO Analysis” (act on your current content analysis)
- “Page / Post / Product…” (search and attach another piece of content as a reference)
Attached items appear as removable chips above the input, so you always see what context is in use.
4. One-click workflows
For common goals, run a ready-made “Workflows” that chains several steps:
- “Optimize article” (title, description, social metas, internal links)
- “New article from scratch” (write the content, then all metas and a schema suggestion)
- “Content audit” (proofread, fix SEO issues, suggest internal links)
- “Product page” (product content, FAQ, schema, all metas)
- “FAQ section”
- “Keyword strategy” (research, outline, titles)
- “All SEO metas” (title, description, social in one shot)
Use “Explore all workflows →” to see them all.
Choose how it edits: “Ask”, “Suggest Mode”, “Auto”
A mode selector in the panel header controls how much freedom the assistant has:
- “Ask”: AI responds but never edits your content.
- “Suggest Mode”: AI proposes changes, you approve with Apply.
- “Auto”: AI applies changes directly to your content.
“History” and “Skills & Memory”
The panel has two more screens, plus its configuration:
- “History”: every conversation is saved and grouped by date (“Today”, “Yesterday”, “This week”, “Older”). Search past chats, reopen one to continue, or use “Clear all”. Start fresh with “New chat”.
- “Skills & Memory”: teach the assistant about you and your site. Add “Personal instructions” (your industry, tone, writing style) and “Site instructions (shared)” (admin only, used for every post), and turn on “Skills” to give the AI specialized knowledge. Save with “Save AI preferences”.
- Configuration: your provider, model, and SEOPress AI Credits are managed on the SEO settings > AI page.
The AI Assistant is a SEOPress PRO feature, currently in Beta. It runs on your own AI provider or on SEOPress AI Credits.
